With the launch of the new and heavily anticipated 2016 Defence White Paper on Thursday 25 February, Australia has joined the Asia-Pacific arms race - allocating up to $19 billion for weaponry and military forces. But the paper also reveals a lot more about Australia’s future role in an increasingly uncertain and contested strategic environment.
In a lead up to the long weekend, a panel of experts from Australia’s leading university-based think tank, the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre, offer their key insight and analysis of the Defence White Paper from a range of perspectives.
Please join us for an insightful discussion and Q&A on the 2016 Defence White Paper, with our leading experts, followed by drinks and canapes.

Chaired by:

Associate Professor Brendan Taylor, Head at the Strategic & Defence Studies Centre

Emeritus Professor Paul Dibb, defence and security expert
Associate Professor Stephan Fruehling, Senior Lecturer and member of the Australian Government’s external panel of experts on the development of the 2016 Defence White Paper
Professor Michael Wesley, Director of the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs
Professor Hugh White, defence analyst
